Economics Victoria
is a unique professional subject association as we are able to offer nationally
recognised training in our capacity as a Registered Training Organisation. The VETLinks program builds on existing teacher capacity by providing
secondary school teachers with professional learning and nationally recognised
industry endorsed training that is responsive to the needs of teachers
delivering VET Hospitality, the largest VET in schools subject. In parallel,
student learning will be enhanced as teacher delivery is relevant, current and
based on best practice
Aim of VETLinks
The
objective of the VETLinks program is to provide certification of quality
teachers and in turn aim to raise the standards of student learning outcomes in
Victoria for
the hospitality industry. The hospitality industry, in both Melbourne and
regional Victoria, is currently experiencing a critical skills shortage in the
areas of commercial cookery and food and beverage. Students studying VET
Hospitality in schools have been recognised as being pivotal to the future of
the hospitality industry. Therefore, providing teachers with professional
learning opportunities that connect strongly with industry and practice beyond
the classroom is vital to ensuring that secondary school students are
adequately prepared to enter the hospitality industry as a career pathway. This
outcome supports post compulsory educational outcomes for students in line with
the Government's goals and targets in Growing
Victoria Together and addresses the employment needs of industry in Victoria.
